5 Things You Missed At The BET Awards Last Night!

Last night (June 26), BET hosted their annual Awards show which was a celebration of Black excellence in different fields of entertainment!

We were on hand to see all of the fun! You didn’t get to tune in?

Here are five moments you missed:

City Girls’ Yung Miami held a “Go Papi” sign for Diddy as he thanked both exes after receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award

Yep, you read that right. After Kanye West made a surprise appearance onstage to pay tribute to the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Diddy took the stage. He dedicated this moment to Kim Porter and made a shoutout to Cassie. While everyone was applauding Diddy’s beautiful speech and tribute, Yung Miami is seen holding up a “Go Papi” sign.

90s Legends brought out onstage

During his epic BET Performance, Diddy honored the 90s with special performances by: Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, Lil Kim, Busta Rhymes, The Lox, Faith Evans, and even a surprise performance from Shyne. Latto receives big energy from the audience after bringing Mariah Carey onstage to perform the DJ Khaled remix of “Big Energy”. Chlöe Bailey’s HOT first solo performance

Dressed in an all-black leather-strapped bodysuit, Chlöe gives viewers a steamy performance of her new single, “Surprise”, which was released June 17th. After giving a lap dance to one of her male dancers onstage, Chlöe transitioned to her other newly released single, “Treat Me”.

Billy Porter makes a scene with Ballroom

Amidst the controversy about Lil Nas X denouncing the BET awards for their failure to give him a nomination this year and the problem of homophobia within the Black community, Billy Porter came through with LGBTQIA+ representation by showcasing Ballroom. The Ballroom Scene is an African-American and Latino underground LGBTQ+ subculture that originated in New York City during the late 19th century. This is where drag queens organized their own pageants by walking down the runway to house music, which is shown in Billy Porter’s performance.

Giveon Blames BET For Sabotaging His Mic

Giveon performed songs from his album “Give or Take”, but went through some technical issues in the beginning while singing “Heartbreak Anniversary”.

When watching the video, it is difficult to overlook the off-key moment. Viewers at home were quick to write on Twitter about the event.

However, it seems that the issue was quickly resolved because Giveon pulled through until the end with no mistakes!

He later goes on to make a lighthearted tweet of the event:“Not @BET sabotaging my mic…. @LilNasX I get it!!”.

This years BET Awards definitely made history with legendary 90s idols coming back onstage, giving LGBTQ+ a platform during Pride, and a bunch of meme-worthy moments.
