Cordae Live At Summer Jam!
Cordae has had one of the quickest ascensions to stardom in recent hip-hop history. He went from recording remixes of popular songs on YouTube to performing on festival stages and receiving Grammy nominations in less than two years.
As a budding artist Cordae began to immediately make waves, first rapping over Eminem’s “My Name Is” and clapping back at J. Cole over the beat to his song “1985” in an attempt to stand up for rappers of his generation. In 2019, he began releasing original songs like Locationships, RNP, and Bad Idea in the lead up to his debut album “The Lost Boy.” Bad Idea was nominated for Best Rap Song at the Grammys in 2019, and “The Lost Boy” was nominated for Best Rap Album.
Originally rapping under the name “YBN Cordae,” he was a part of a stable of rappers that included YBN Nahmir and YBN Almighty Jay until shedding the “YBN” in 2020. YBN followed a similar path that Odd Future, Brockhampton, and a number of new age rap groups went down – after achieving initial success as a unit the members of YBN were able to find their voices and envision success outside the group. This is not the first time Cordae changed names, in his early years he released a few projects under the name “Entendre.”
For Cordae, his success continued on a steady pace after the disbanding of YBN. After the group broke up, Cordae teamed up with Roddy Ricch to release the single Gifted which was well-received. Cordae is yet to top charts with his singles, but his studio albums reached the Billboard Top 10 in hip-hop and peaked at #13 in all genres.
Cordae will make his Summer Jam debut on the Festival Stage where many other emerging talented artists also made their start, like Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T, and A$AP Rocky. The future is incredibly bright for Cordae. On his most recent “From a Birds Eye View” Cordae worked with music legends like Eminem, Stevie Wonder, and Lil Wayne.
Being half of a celebrity couple with tennis superstar Naomi Osaka, debuting his album primarily at listening parties at HBCUs and being a prominent supporter of Black Lives Matter during 2020 have helped the public get to know Cordae. He’s an ascending star looking to make his mark in the music industry and on the world in general. Don’t miss Cordae on the Summer Jam Festival Stage!
Get excited to see Cordae perform at Hot 97’s Summer Jam! It all goes down on Sunday, June 12th, at MetLife Stadium.
